What is the Kingdom of Heaven?

What is the Kingdom of Heaven?

32 times in the New Testament, Jesus spoke of “the Kingdom of Heaven”. In several cases, Jesus said that the “Kingdom of Heaven is at hand”. In numerous parables, Jesus would begin it with “the Kingdom of Heaven is like…”

Now, let me clear up a matter for just a moment – in case there was some form of doubt. The streets that you drove to come here this evening were NOT paved with gold. The worship team, no matter how good they may be, are NOT angels. While our trees may have leaves on them, those leaves will NOT heal a single person. Bottom line, just to be clear on this, you are NOT in heaven right now. But, however, the Kingdom of Heaven IS at hand!

How does this work? Let me explain with a bit of scripture:

In II Corinthians 5:20, Paul says:

“Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.”

II Corinthians 5:20

Basically, you and I, as Christians, are ambassadors for Jesus Christ. If you were the ambassador for, let’s just say, Great Britain, the house that you lived in would be considered British soil. As you walked down the street, you would be considered as a British citizen. When you spoke, it would be as though you were the Prime Minister himself speaking. Basically, everywhere you went, just by you being there, a little bit of Great Britain would be there.

Ok, want a bit more convincing, let’s consider some additional scripture:

18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.

22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

Ephesians 1:18-23

4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

Ephesians 2:4-6

Here, we see Christ returned back to Heaven and seated at the right hand of God – and we are then described as seated WITH Christ. In case you weren’t paying attention – you are seated with Christ – in the heavenly places. Yes, you are still on earth, but everywhere you go, you carry a bit of heaven around with you.

You are an ambassador for the Kingdom of Heaven. Your HOUSE belongs to the Kingdom of Heaven. Wherever you go, a little bit of Heaven is traveling with you. When you SPEAK, you SPEAK in the NAME of Jesus Christ – the King of Kings.

Let’s consider this in practice for just a few minutes by considering some of what is described about heaven – and comparing that with earth:

No sickness

Revelation 22:2

Constant sickness

No death

Revelation 21:4

Everyone will die

And these are just a few examples. Basically, Heaven is the perfected version of what Earth should have been. And we are citizens of it.
