Being a Soldier
Being a Soldier
Ok, you say, I get it – I’m an ambassador of Heaven. So, what exactly does this have to do with being a soldier? Well, I’m glad you asked that! The answer is simple – it is THE MOST IMPORTANT task for each of us. Let’s take a look, for just a moment, at the Great Commission.
I always like to look at things in context. The crucifixion is over, and Jesus has been raised from the dead. For many days now, Jesus has spoken to the disciples and others, showing that He was alive and giving them some final instructions. Now, at last, the time has come – Jesus’s earthly ministry is at an end – and it is time for His heavenly ministry to begin. These would literally be the last words that Jesus would speak while on the earth – so, as you might thing, they are just a BIT important. Let’s hear what Jesus has to say:
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
Jesus is commanding US to do something very critical – and that is to “make disciples of all the nations”. As disciples – just like those who physically followed Jesus, they would be expected to proclaim that the Kingdom of Heaven was at hand – and they would be expected to CAUSE the natural state of the Earth to return.
